Abstract:
Cannabinoids have shown the capacity and ability to treat numerous diseases andailments such as pain​[1]​, grand mal epileptic seizures​[2]​, anxiety​[3]​, and migraines​[4]​. Cannabinoidsinteract with known cannabinoid receptor sites labeled cannabinoid 1 (CB1) receptor andcannabinoid 2 (CB2 receptor)​[5]​. These cannabinoids can function as either an agonist, inverseagonist, or antagonist. Although their function is known the reason why cannabinoids bind aseither an agonist or antagonist is not. The goal of this research is to analyze how agonist bindingcannabinoids and antagonist binding cannabinoids interact with the CB1 receptor site, whichamino acid residues they share, and which amino acid residues differ. This information will helpus determine why cannabinoids induce different effects on their consumer and how we mayexamine the key residue interaction to determine how to construct better cannabinoids anddetermine how an unknown cannabinoid will function.
