Abstract:
This is a transcript and recording of an oral history interview that took place as part of the class projects for Middlesex College's History 221H class in the Fall of 2021.
Scope and Content:
Au pair is a helper from a foreign country working for, and living as part of, a host family. Typically, au pairs take on a share of the family's responsibility for childcare as well as some housework, and receive a monetary allowance for personal use.
Biographical:
(Biographical) Gabriela Guevara is a twenty-three-year-old that came to the United States with the dream of becoming a professional. Gabriela worked in Costa Rica in customer service and had a difficult life in costa Rica. A few months ago, this young lady immigrated as an au pair (babysitter) to accomplish her dreams, leaving behind her best friend Kylo, who was her company in life. Guevara arrived in Middlesex seeking a better future, delighting us with her passion for arts.
